Default Official DVI Male to Mini Displayport Female Adapter Thread

I just received some preliminary jpg’s from my engineering department. I think these will give everyone a good idea of what we are talking about making here. The colors are not what we are planning, it will probably be in Apple white, similar to our other products. Key Features:
  1. No need to connect the adapter to the wall for power, our adapter gets power straight from the computer via USB.
  2. USB passthrough. Since we have a female USB on the same end of the mini displayport female end you can plug the USB cable from your Apple Cinema Display straight into it and get the same functionality you would have as if you were plugging it straight into your computer.
  3. No need for an additional DVI cable. Our adapter will already have a DVI and USB cable coming out of it so you won’t need to purchase any additional cables or have a complicated connection scheme.
  4. HDCP compatibility
When we have a definite ETA on the adapter I will create a product page on our website which will definitely allow all customers to pre-order their products. Because of how our website is setup the charge will be made as soon as you pre-order. As usual all pre-orders can be cancelled up to the the ship date.

If you have any questions about the product please post them here and I will make sure they get answered.

UPDATE!

Our Mini Displayport to DVI Adapter is now available for order! Please check our product page:

Default Supported Features

Will the adapter support all the features of the new Apply monitors (e.g., mic, camera, and speakers)?

Because DVI is only able to carry video I don't see that there will be any way for the mic, or speakers to work. If the camera were to work it would only be able to carry video. But I do not have any confirmation that it will work at this point.

Sorry to disappoint.

Isn't that what the USB cable is for? I'm pretty sure it will all still work as it runs trough the USB cable not the MDP.

I think you're right! I don't know what I was thinking when I implied those functions would be passing through the mini displayport. They are almost certainy carried through usb and as such should work fine with this adapter.

I believe you are correct on this one and I definitely must thank you for pointing out my blunder. Of course these features are passed through usb and not MDP. They should work perfectly with this adapter, at least on macs.

Hello, I have two dual link DVI ports on the back of my early 2008 Mac Pro. I know this adapter is single link, but will it still work with my dual link ports? Also, if I buy two adapters, will I be able to power two Mini Displayport monitors or is it not that simple?

I'm crossing my fingers for it to be that simple.

Thanks!

Yes you can definitely use single link adapter with a dual link capable video card. It just means you won't be able to utilize the full dual link resolution. If you are using the 24" monitors though you won't even notice this. If your video card is designed to output to two monitors from each port then yes you can use two mini displayport monitors!
